Exhibition

“Pictures and memories of the municipality of Calheta”

As from March 9th at MUDAS Museum of Contemporary Art of Madeira, the Madeira Regional Archives and Public Library presents a photographic and documental exhibition, as a result of joint project undertaken by the Madeira Regional Archives and Public Library and the MUDAS.

In this exhibition, the Regional Archives of Madeira (ABM) presents old memories of the Costa de Baixo (Lower Coastal) region of the island, captured for all time through photographic images and documents of different kinds.
Aspects of the municipality’s centennial heritage and relevant buildings, some of which no longer exist, are shown. Churches and chapels are illuminated and their remarkable interior architectural elements and works of art, some of which belong to the Flemish School, are revealed.
Quaint scenes of typical rural daily life and picturesque countryside scenes unfold before our eyes, as well as breath-taking landscapes and views of the luxuriant vegetation of the Serra da Calheta (Calheta Mountain).
In addition to images from the Regional Archives of Madeira Photographic Collection, several photographs taken by various photographers belonging to the “Photographia Museum Vicentes” Collection are also displayed.

To visit until April 14th.
